I spotted this interesting article at springwise.com and thought I’d share, since it’s a brilliant idea!

Much the way Urban Gentry and Insider London offer specialized urban tours catering to people with particular interests, so Photours offers lengthier trips designed specifically for budding photographers.

Founded by two professional photographers who were tired of tours that took them to wonderful places but hurried them through the sights, London-based Photours offers specialist photography holidays designed to provide inspiring views and personalized education every step of the way. Spain, Italy, Greece, Iceland and the U.K. are currently the focus of Photours’ trips, which vary in length from half-day sojourns to two-week treks. A thematic approach is used to guide participants through the subtleties of photographing within a particular context, such as taking night shots or capturing architecture and landscapes, and nightly critiques are provided at the end of each day. Photours also gives each participant a detailed workbook filled with full details of the themes used on their trip. Pricing varies with the length of the trip and the travel involved.

With travel options so numerous today, offering a customized experience with the added value of specialized education makes good sense. You can’t be all things to all people, after all—might as well pick one group and go all the way to please them. It’s also not hard to imagine a company like Canon—which already offers workshops in national parks—sponsoring something similar, or creating a branded travel business on the side. Care to pick a specialist niche of your own…? (Related: Louis Vuitton’s walking tours of Beijing, Hong Kong & Shanghai; Sightseeing on the run.)

From the very beginning, Hrair’s artistic career has been crowned with success both in Lebanon and abroad, with numerous exhibitions held worldwide. By his work, Hrair has influenced the history of contemporary Lebanese art. His art imposes itself by its harmony, balance and stability and thus lies on the undefined frontiers where painting and music come together.

During my stay in Bahrain I visited so many art exhibitions because information was always at an easy reach. I always knew what’s on at which gallery if not from the radio or through people then defiantly online and specifically on facebook.
I have wondered for quite some time now why our Omani art galleries are not active on facebook. Forget not active, not even present. Oman web presence was not so popular among organizations until recently. I’m not talking about having a website that would probably be covered by cobwebs which would have been the case if that could actually happen. Ironic! It is called the World Wide Web, maybe that’s what confused them. I guess they took it a bit too literally.
Anyhow, although organizations are on the right track, art related organizations are still not catching up. Have they failed to recognize that the possibilities of the Internet/www are endless? Or are they just content with traditional means of promoting themselves? Therefore are happy with the turn-up.

By Hasan Kamoonpuri
MUSCAT — Dr Rajha bint Abdulameer bin Ali, Minister of Tourism, inaugurated yesterday the 16th Annual Photography Exhibition (December 6-10) at the Omani Society for Fine Arts. Earlier, the minister gave away prizes to the winners of the annual photography competition. The grand prize winner was Rahma bint Khalfan al Hadi. The prizes consisted of two categories, namely Open Subject and Shadows. Each category included three prizes. In the Open Subject category, the three winners are Ahmed bin Abdullah al Sheikeli, Badar al Darmaki and Salim al Wardhi, respectively.

In the second category of Shadows, there was no first prize winner, but the second and third winners are Ahmed bin Hamad al Tauqi and Rasha bint Saud al Abdali, respectively. Other three special prizes went to Rahma bint Khalfan al Hadi, Ahmed bin Abdullah al Sheikeli and Farhat bint Salim al Harthy. Following the prize distribution, Dr Rajha toured the photography exhibition, which includes 51 photographs. The exhibition is worth visiting in that it gives a clear idea about the level of skills Omani artists have acquired and the beautiful ways they have depicted their ideas. Photographs are sharp and outstanding in themes and clear and appealing in style.

The annual photography competition includes members of the Photography Club, which started with Omani Artist Society in 1993 and joined in the same year The International Union Photography. It has formed the administration centre to manage, command, and co-ordinate and follow-up the activities and performances of the members round the year. The members meet every Monday to discuss the general activities agenda for the club to proceed in a planned manner.

The club organises weekly and periodical activities for members to hone further their skills and talents through the lectures and training courses and follow-up on the new techniques and artistic and scientific inventions. The club participates in the contests and exhibitions which are organised by photography organisations affiliated to International Union Photography.
